Tennis pundit Mark Petchey believes Alexander Zverev’s service issues are technical instead of mental.
RACQUET REVIEW: Alexander Zverev’s HEAD Gravity Pro
Zverev, the world No 4, is one of the form players on the ATP Tour in 2021 but one area of concern in the German’s game is the number of double faults he serves.
Zverev served five double faults in his 6-4, 3-6, 6-7 (3/7) defeat to American Taylor Fritz in the Indian Wells semi-finals.
Zverev squandered two match points while serving for the match and on one of those occasions he served a double fault.
Petchy, a former ATP pro and renowned commentator, commented on Zverev’s serving woes on social media.
“As much as people think Zverev serve issues are mental I don’t believe they are. The racquet comes from so far from the right that it ends up promoting the ‘waiter’ position before the throw at the ball.
“The racquet travelling on this diagonal doesn’t help him at all,” Petchey wrote in a Twitter post.
Despite the loss, it’s still been a successful season so far for Zverev, who has won four titles, including the Olympic gold medal.
