Austrian tennis star Dominic Thiem could be forced to go under the knife as he battles to recover from a wrist injury.
The 2020 US Open champion injured his wrist at the grass court Mallorca Open in June and it forced him to prematurely end his season.
His goal is to return to training in November and be ready to play at the 2021 Australian Open.
However, those plans might get derailed if doctors decide Thiem needs surgery.
Thiem currently sports a splint on his right hand, with tennis out the question.
The tendon sheath on his right wrist is believed to be healing slowly and a doctor’s appointment in the next few days should provide more clarity.
“Everything depends on that,” Thiem told the Heute website.
