Tennis legend Martina Navratilova has hit out at a claim that she’d be an “average” tennis player on the current WTA Tour.

The 64-year-old Navratilova won a combined 59 Grand Slam titles – 18 singles, 31 doubles and 10 mixed doubles – in an illustrious career.
She is widely considered as one of the greatest tennis players of all time and did not take kindly to a suggestion on social media that she would struggle amongst the current crop of WTA stars.
Navratilova, who is quite outspoken on social media platform Twitter, was perturbed that one user suggested she’d be “average” in today’s women’s game.
“Are you trying to say I would be average now as a female player? Have you been smoking something really strong? Darling- the only thing I might be average in is my height…” Navratilova wrote.
Navratilova is listed as 5ft 8in (1.73m) which is indeed an average height in the modern women’s game.
It would have been interesting to see Navratilova’s serve and volley style in today’s baseline dominated environment but we reckon she’d have the skill-set to adjust just fine.
